PLAZA DEL TORO’s sixth edition of the Dim Sum Tapas dinner series features Mexico City native and award-winning restaurateur Jack Schwartz of San Francisco’s lauded taqueria, Tacobar. Jack will present a menu in the service style of Dim Sum with tapas inspired by Mexican cuisine in collaboration with PLAZA DEL TORO chef Michael Kessler. Guest bartender Owen Young of Mediterranean Exploration Company will design a specialty cocktail menu to complement the cuisine. Spinning by DJ Jimbo.

HOW IT WORKS
Dim Sum style service is a casual, rowdy opportunity to pick and choose dishes as they circulate the room without placing an order. You could see up to 25 rotating dishes, including desserts. Full bar, wine, and flights available. Individually priced tapas range from $5-$25. Reservations available between 5:30PM-9:30PM. Credit card required to secure your reservation. Walk-in’s welcome at the bar with limited availability.

ABOUT JACK SCHWARTZ

Jack Schwartz is a native of Mexico City, who obtained his bachelor degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management in 1995 at the Centro de Estudios Superiores de San Angel in Mexico City.

He moved to San Francisco, CA in 1996 to attend the California Culinary Academy. While attending the Culinary Academy, Jack was in charge of the garde mange production for weekend events at the Academy.

In 1998 he won the silver medal at the Livermore Valley Wine Association Food and Wine pairing contest, which highlights one’s ability to match food with appropriate wine. In 1999, Jack participated in a Nestle food dessert contest in Mexico City, where his recipe for Chevre Brioche Cake was chosen as one of the best 10, among 13,000 recipes.

Jack worked at Maya Restaurant (3 stars) in San Francisco as a cook, then at Citron Restaurant in Oakland, CA (a 3 stars French restaurant). In January 2001, Jack opened a Mediterranean tapas restaurant A Cote working as a Souschef; It was rated 3 stars by the second month of operation and categorized among the best 50 restaurants in the Bay Area by San Francisco Magazine.
Since the beginning of the project, Jack worked as a Souschef and consultant for 1550 Hyde café and wine bar in San Francisco. He then went on to develop & manage Bear Naked Burgers, Café Pipo, and La Calaca Loca taqueria in Oakland CA, from the creation of a concept to the everyday operation, which attracted the attention of food editors in the San Francisco Chronicle.

In 2010 Jack opened a taqueria ‘Taco Bar’ in Pacific Heights, in San Francisco, bringing him back to his Mexican roots. Specializing in quality, fresh ingredients, it’s been a successful restaurant serving the neighborhood and tourists for the last 8 years.

PLAZA DEL TORO’s fifth edition of our Dim Sum Tapas dinner series featured Israeli Chefs in Residence JONATHAN BOROWITZ  of M25, BENTZI ARBEL of Mifgash Osher, and RON GIBORI formerly of Jeremiah. The chefs from Tel Aviv presented a menu served in the style of Dim Sum with tapas inspired by Israeli cuisine. Guest bartender JAMAL HASSAN of Shalom Y’all, Mediterranean Exploration Company, and BYH Burgers designed a specialty cocktail menu to complement the cuisine.

PLAZA DEL TORO’s fourth edition of our Dim Sum Tapas dinner series featured Chef GABE ROSEN of BIWA and NORANEKO. Gabe presented a tapas menu served in the style of Dim Sum inspired by classic izakaya Japanese favorites with a Portland sensibility. Guest bartender XTIAN ROUILLIER of TASTY N SONS designed a specialty cocktail menu to complement the cuisine.

Jason presents a tapas menu served in the style of Dim Sum inspired by classic traditions of farm driven craft cookery. Guest bartender Erica Namare of Mediterranean Exploration Company designed a specialty cocktail menu to complement the cuisine.

PLAZA DEL TORO’s premiere Dim Sum Tapas Dinner Series featured the return of Spanish chef Juanjo Canals of Madrid’s Con Amor and Despecho restaurants. Juanjo, a veteran of PLAZA’s Chef in Residence series and Portland’s La Ruta PDX gastronomic festival, collaborated with PLAZA DEL TORO Chef Michael Kessler and Toro Bravo Chef Pat Manning on a Spanish tapas menu served in the style of Dim Sum.
