Brandon Hirahara is the Chef de Cuisine at lauded Portland, Oregon Thai restaurant Langbaan. Surrounded by great food at family get togethers in his hometown of Waipahu on Oahu, Brandon quickly realized how food brings people together. He believes the culinary arts enhance the quality of lives while sustaining life. “People can listen to music, look at a painting,” he says, “and it will make them happier for sure, but that piece of art isn’t going to keep you alive.” Brandon is still close with his mentor, chef Keith Endo (Sansei, Vino) who taught him that being a chef is just as much about relationships with people as it is about cooking. Brandon refined his craft studying culinary literature and working his way through kitchens such as Portland restaurants Aviary and Genoa. Brandon joined the team at Langbaan in 2016.
Langbaan is a restaurant within PaaDee restaurant. The names comes from the Thai word for “back of the house.” Langbaan provides a unique Thai-style dining experience inspired by century-old traditions. Langbaan's food is classically prepared using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients.
